2009 West Virginia
Lynn and I went to Marlinton, WV for the first week of August. Marlinton is in Pocahontas County near the Monongahela National Forest, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, several state parks that provided great hiking, and the site of the last major Civil War battle site in West Virginia.
During our week there we had great weather and plenty to do. If our vacation were extended to, say, two weeks, it is not clear I could make that claim.
In addition to the photos in this gallery, there are some panoramas of the West Virginia country side in http://www.alechimwich.com/Other/Panoramas/7091244_MpdwN#476456094_czu6i. These panoramas are perhaps more interesting because of the software I used to create them, AutopanoPro, than for the images themselves.

The Milroy Cabin at the Jerico B&B in Marlinton, WV, is where we stayed. This cabin was built with reused materials on a root cellar that was close to the main house.
The cabin was a fine although a little dark. My major complaint was that the beds were upstairs in a loft with access via a narrow, metal spiral staircase - not the best situation for night time trips to the bathroom downstairs.
My only other complaint was with the intermittant wireless access.
