2009 West Virginia
Lynn and I went to Marlinton, WV for the first week of August. Marlinton is in Pocahontas County near the Monongahela National Forest, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, several state parks that provided great hiking, and the site of the last major Civil War battle site in West Virginia.
During our week there we had great weather and plenty to do. If our vacation were extended to, say, two weeks, it is not clear I could make that claim.
In addition to the photos in this gallery, there are some panoramas of the West Virginia country side in http://www.alechimwich.com/Other/Panoramas/7091244_MpdwN#476456094_czu6i. These panoramas are perhaps more interesting because of the software I used to create them, AutopanoPro, than for the images themselves.

Pocahontas County had had a lot of rain in late July and, consequently, there were lots of mushrooms in the forests. This pretty specimen was see on the Honey Bee Trail of the Watoga State Park.
To me, these fungi are like wild flowers - pretty but ephemeral. The small blacks spots are the beginnings of decay. I would appreciate knowing the name of this mushroom. My quick searches on the all-seeing, all-knowing Internet have not been productive.
