Popular during the 18th and 19th centuries, Windsor chairs have seen a resurgence in interest. This birdcage Windsor chair shows the fascination that the West had with Oriental motifs which became common with the opening of trade with Japan and China.
The unique feature of this chair is the duckbill miters in the corners of the upper rails. Several woods are used: pine for the seat, red oak for the spindles and double bobbin leg turnings, maple for upper and lower crest rails and side spindles. The finish is milk paint (Lamp black and Pepper red) and tung oil.
