Interior and Exterior Home Embellishments
During the last half of 2007, I was able to photograph the work of a local North Carolina artisan who worked in wood, stained glass, mosaics and stone. Since all of these photographs were taken from private residences, they are not publicly accessible.
The photographs shown here are from four homes. Although the gallery here contains a small selection from the totality of taken photographs, there are enough here to illustrate the diversity of work.
All of these pieces were incorporated in a functional way in their residential settings. The most unusual aspect of these works was that the components of most of the pieces were reused from other abandoned structures and reformed to meet present needs.
Although I believe the artist is entirely self taught, his work is reminiscent of the American Arts and Crafts movement that flourished in the early Twentieth Century. In particular, his work is reminiscent of the work of the architects/designers Greene and Greene. See, for example, http://www.gamblehouse.org/photos/int/index.html.
If your internet connection is reasonably robust, you may select the option of displaying any of these images in greater detail by hovering the mouse over the image and selecting a different resolution.

The waterfall, brick work, door and planting shown here are part of the ornamentation of a stone retaining wall constructed at a residence near Durham, NC. See Stone wall panorama for a general description of the wall itself. Other details of this wall may be seen in this album.
